Description

Cereal Rye, known as the King Of Cover Crops, has an very fibrous root system. This extensive root system is great for breaking through surface compaction. Widespread adoption and usage can be contributed to its ease of use.

It is easily planted late into the seeding window in the fall, allowing for successful cover even at lower soil temperatures. Cereal rye is known for being the best cereal crop at retaining residual N. Robust spring growth has allowed for operations to successfully suppress weeds late into the spring. It also has been known to suppress many small seeded broadleafs because of its allelopathic properties.

Termination is most common while vegetative in the spring through chemical control or alternative methods (rolling, mowing, or crimping) after boot stage.
